Clerk's Office Awarded $41,450 NYS Government Records Management Grant

September 9, 2008

Thanks to a grant award from the New York State Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund, the Westchester County Clerk will soon be able to provide customers with easier access to maps filed in his Land Records Division.  “Our day-to-day focus has been to properly index and safeguard over 50,000 maps filed in our office through the years,” began County Clerk Timothy C. Idoni.  “ We are proud this grant will help us improve our customer service.  Our staff will locate maps more quickly.  Additional map images will be provided to our online customers.  Our staff will be able to print maps right in our office rather than continuing the time-consuming efforts of ordering them from the County Archives.”

The $41,450 grant was awarded from funds for the 2008-09 cycle of the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF).  Established by legislation in 1989, LGRMIF is funded through a twenty five cent surcharge on every document recorded in County Clerks’ offices throughout the state.  These funds are then available through competitive grants awarded to preserve New York State history and heritage.   “It is especially gratifying to be able to put these grant funds to use for the benefit of our customers here in the Westchester County Clerk’s Office.  This grant program is funded in part through fees collected in this office,” concluded Idoni.

The public can visit the Office of the Westchester County Clerk which is located at 110 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in White Plains between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays.  For more information, please call 995-3080 or visit our website at http://www.westchesterclerk.com/.
