Clerk Makes Strides
County Clerk employees embrace need to raise awareness and funding in the fight against breast cancer

11/09/2007

October 24, 2007:  Westchester County Clerk Timothy C. Idoni is proud to annouce that as a result of recent fundraising efforts by his staff, more than $4,000 has been raised toward the American Cancer Society's Making Strides movement to fight breast cancer.  Idoni and his staff joined with other Westchester County employees for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Purchase College on Sunday, October 21st.  The walk and various fundraising events are part of a national movement to help raise funding and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

"Breast cancer is the most common form and the second leading cause of cancer death in women," said Idoni.  "While there has been much progress in the areas of prevention and treatment to reduce the cases of breast cancer, there is still much more to do by way of research, pioneering new treatments, education, and providing access to information and resources for cancer patients."  Idoni and members of his staff continued their annual commitment to Making Strides through monetary donations raised at a successful bake sale and raffle held at the County Clerk's office earlier this month, as well as, from donation ribbon cards made in honor of a friend or loved one, which are posted on a tribute board.  Additional funds were raised by staff volunteers who along with Idoni participated in the annual Making Strides Walk, joining more than 10,000 walkers including breast cancer survivors.  This year's walk was one of the largest ever in county history.  "We are pleased that our efforts in raising $4,000 in contributions will go to support various causes in the field.  Breast cancer in one way or another impacts us all," stated Idoni.  "In short, we all have the capacity to help make a difference by honoring survivors and providing hope to women living with this disease."

County Clerk Idoni urges county residents to support the American Cancer Society as it continues the fight against breast cancer through donations and volunteering their time.  "Your donations and support bring us closer to a cure," said Idoni.  Donations help support funding for cutting edge research and promising treatments, provide free programs and services that improve the lives of cancer patients, and support advocacy efforts for the creation of public policy that provides women access to treatment, regardless of income.
