Living History
Dating back to 1680, the archives for Westchester County are the central repository for all of the historic public records for the county. A Teachers’ Resource section is also available to help educators.
Each month The Object of History features an artifact from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History’s collections related to a major topic in U.S. history such as the American Revolution or Civil Rights.
Founded in 1921, National Council for the Social Studies has grown to be the largest association in the country devoted solely to social studies education.
Unlike other sites on the Court, this resource is teacher-authored and presents the institution’s history thematically, in a way that corresponds to major strands in the social studies curriculum.
 
The Virtual Archives Web site relates various aspects of Westchester County’s history through the display of primary documents. Although it does not include activity packets, educators can easily devise their own based on the materials contained in the site.
Throughout the Ages is a visual educational resource from the New York State Archives, the Archives Partnership Trust, and the JPMorgan Chase Foundation that focuses on using historical records as learning tools in pre-K–grade 6 education.
The New York State Council for the Social Studies is a professional association of teachers and supervisors at the elementary, secondary, college, and university levels. Membership is open to all persons who teach, supervise, develop curricular, engage in research, or are otherwise concerned with social studies education.
