What is RSS?
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Think of it as a distributable "What's New" for a website. RSS solves myriad problems webmasters commonly face, such as increasing traffic, and gathering and distributing news.
Westchester County delivers headlines, events, services, and people information through RSS which stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. It is an XML-based format for distributing headlines with links to sites on westchestergov.com for more information. To receive Westchester County RSS, you must do two things:
Step 1: Get a "news reader" (also known as a "news aggregator"). A number of free or shareware RSS news readers are available on the web for downloading. You can download Pluck which plugs into Microsoft Internet Explorer or RSS Bandit.
Step 2: After you download and install the RSS Reader, open the RSS Reader and add the westchestergov.com RSS feed to your news reader, if it isn't already included. You can do this by adding a new entry that points to:
http://www.westchestergov.comhttp://www.westchesterclerk.com/people.xml
Note: westchestergov.com currently uses the RSS 2.0 format.
