Westchester County strives on many fronts to protect our valuable water, air and land resources. The goal is to protect and enhance the quality of life of residents of today and residents of tomorrow.

This department oversees the operations of the county’s sewer treatment plants and water treatment plants. It also runs the recycling programs, including Household Chemicial Cleanup Days.
The Health department is involved in many ways with protecting the quality of water and other valuable resources.
The Westchester County Department of Planning works to promote orderly development in the county and preserve the resouces that exist. Its teams of professionals work with local governments.

Since 1944, the Westchester County Environmental Laboratory has been a certified Public Health Laboratory and has contributed to protecting the health of the citizens of Westchester County and the Lower Hudson Valley.
In Westchester County, there are nearly 50 parks and recreational areas where you can hike, swim, bicycle, fish, skate and picnic, or just spend quiet time in the outdoors.
